All new 2022 Mazda MX-30

If you’re planning to buy an electric vehicle, you may want to keep an eye out for the arrival of the 2022 Mazda MX-30. Debuting in the United States soon, this small crossover represents Mazda’s first attempt at an all-electric vehicle. Trim Levels and Prices

The 2022 Mazda MX-30 comes in two trim levels: the MX-30 EV and Premium Plus. The base model has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $33,470, while the Premium Plus will set you back $36,480 or more. However, similar to other electric vehicles, this crossover is eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500, making it significantly more affordable. In addition, you’ll enjoy additional savings if you qualify for state or local tax credits.

Exterior

One of the most impressive aspects of the Mazda MX-30 is its stylish exterior. Although it doesn’t receive the “CX” designation of the other Mazda crossovers, it shares many styling cues with them, such as the swept-back proportions and coupe-like roofline. Measuring 173 inches long, it’s also the same size as the CX-30. However, this model differs from its non-electric sibling in that it has flatter and smoother side panels. Meanwhile, Its distinctive rear-hinged “freestyle” back doors contribute to a sporty profile, while its lower body cladding gives it a rugged appeal. 

The Mazda MX-30 has five color options for you to choose from, including Jet Black Mica, Machine Gray Metallic, Ceramic Metallic Multi-Tone, Polymetal Gray Multi-Tone, and Soul Red Crystal Multi-Tone. Regardless of the trim level, this crossover rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. 

Performance and Range

The 2022 Mazda MX-30 is equipped with an electric motor that generates 143 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. Because this unit is paired with a direct-drive transmission, it sends power to only the front wheels as all-wheel drive isn’t available. The crossover can travel up to 100 miles on a full charge, thanks to its 35.5-kWh battery pack. With DC fast charging, it takes about 36 minutes to charge the battery to 80%. A Level 2 240-volt charging outlet needs 2 hours and 50 minutes to do the same, while a Level 1 120-volt charger takes more than 13 hours. 

The Mazda MX-30’s sharp handling is why it has the “MX” in its name. This prefix is shared only with Mazda’s incredibly athletic MX-5 Miata sports car. The MX-30 features a version of the manufacturer’s G-Vectoring Control Plus chassis-control system that has been reworked for an engineless application, resulting in improved agility and composure around corners. Additionally, it’s fitted with an impeccably damped suspension, well-weighted steering, and strong brakes to deliver an engaging and confident driving experience. These features make the crossover one of the most fun-to-drive electric vehicles on the market. 

Besides offering great driving enjoyment, the Mazda MX-30 can deliver a smooth and comfortable ride in most situations. In fact, its ride quality is no less cozy than that of the equivalent CX-30. Interior

The interior of this crossover has an open and airy feel and provides excellent outward visibility in all directions. The comfort and convenience features of the Mazda MX-30 vary depending on which trim level you choose. In terms of storage, the Mazda MX-30 provides up to 21 cubic feet of storage space behind its rear seats, which is nearly identical to the CX-30. Additionally, it has a wide range of storage options for front passengers, including bins, pockets, and cup-holders.

Infotainment Features

The 2022 Mazda MX-30 is fitted with the latest version of the Mazda Connect infotainment system to keep you updated and entertained on the road. This system comes with an 8.8-inch touch-screen display, an eight-speaker sound system, navigation, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. In addition, the Premium Plus has the same infotainment features as the base trim, plus a 12-speaker Bose audio system and a satellite radio trial. 

Active Safety Features

The Mazda MX-30 also offers an extensive list of active safety features that can help reduce your accident risk. These features include automatic emergency braking, pedestrian monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic warning, and a head-up display. Warranty

Like other Mazda vehicles, the MX-30 comes with a limited warranty that lasts for three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty good for five years or 60,000 miles.
