What Is the Skyactiv-G 2.5T Engine?

The Skyactiv-G 2.5T builds on Mazda’s Skyactiv technology with highly efficient direct injection that achieves the world’s highest gas engine compression ratio of 14.0:1. It has an innovative Dynamic Pressure Turbo system that uses a butterfly valve in the engine’s exhaust to help create more pressure at low rpm. The high compression combustion increases fuel efficiency and torque by up to 15%. It has outputs of up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and even with the extra power and torque, it remains competitively efficient. 

The greatest strength of the Skyactiv-G 2.5T is its responsiveness. Mazda engineered it to deliver dynamic response even at low rpm, and it has plenty of extra power for when you want to pass at highway speeds. 

Mazda3 2.5 Turbo

The Skyactiv-G 2.5T is newly available for the Mazda3 for 2021. Under the hood of the Mazda3, it delivers 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque with premium gas and 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque with regular octane gas. The Skyavtiv-G 2.5T gives the Mazda3 an extra 64 horsepower and a bump of 134 pound-feet of torque over the base four-cylinder engine. Mazda specifically calibrated the engine for the Mazda3 making it deliver the driving dynamics you expect when behind the wheel of this sporty vehicle. It works exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. 

The Mazda3 Turbo has upscale features and technology to make the ride enjoyable. Depending on the trim, you can get heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with heat, a power sunroof, and paddle shifters. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and an upgraded 12-speaker Bose stereo system along with an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hot spot. The Premium Plus model adds navigation and the latest version of i-Activsense safety tech. The hatchback body style of this top-level trim has a black rear roof spoiler, and the option for an aero kit to make it even more aerodynamic.

Mazda6

The Mazda6 is one of the sleekest family-friendly sedans you can find. The entry-level Sport and Touring models have Mazda’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, but the Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, the Carbon Edition, and the Signature all have the Skyactiv-G. Along with the more powerful turbo engine, these trims also add extra technology, including wireless Apple CarPlay and the wired version of Andriod Auto. The higher-end Mazda6 trims come with satellite radio and an 11-speaker Bose stereo system while stepping up to the Grand Touring Reserve adds a trunk-mounted spoiler, driver’s seat memory settings, leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel.

The new Carbon Edition has the Skyactiv-G 2.5T, and it adds the black-painted wheels, red leather upholstery, and the carbon edition exterior paint. 

Mazda CX-9

The CX-9 is a family-friendly three-row SUV. Mazda replaced the CX-9’s V-6 engine with the Skyactiv-G 2.5T to reduce its weight and improve fuel efficiency. This SUV also has a cooled exhaust recirculation system that allows the engine to run at a high compression ratio without needing to add fuel to the cylinders for cooling. Mazda offers the 2021 CX-9 in five different trim levels, including a new Carbon Edition. All have the Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The entry-level Sport has 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, and either front- or all-wheel drive. 

The Touring adds a power rear liftgate and the option for the Touring Premium Package with a sunroof and extra tech features. The Carbon Edition has an exclusive Polymetal Gray exterior paint color, red leather upholstery, and red interior trim. A bump up to the Grand Touring trim adds a hands-free liftgate, and the top-level Signature has a unique grille and LED lighting to make it stand out from the other models. 

Mazda CX-5

The CX-5 is a small SUV with agile handling and responsive steering. The Skyactiv-G 2.5T comes with the Carbon Edition Turbo, the Grand Touring, the Grand Touring Reserve, and the Signature trims. The engine has no turbo lag and offers immediate response when you step on the gas for a fun and engaging drive. It also has a responsive steering system and all-wheel drive for confidence behind the wheel. 

The higher-end models with the Skyactiv-G 2.5T turbo engine also have upgraded features such as adaptive headlights and heated exterior mirrors. If you choose the top-level CX-5 Signature, it comes with navigation, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, parking sensors, and rear automatic braking. 

Mazda CX-30

The CX-30 is Mazda’s compact SUV with a sleek exterior look, a refined interior, and you can now get it with the Skyactiv-G 2.5T. With its 250 horsepower, this turbo engine makes the CX-30 one of the quickest small SUVs in its class. Choose the 2.5 Turbo trim with the Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine, all-wheel drive, and roof rails, or bump up to the 2.5 Turbo Premium for a power liftgate, paddle shifters, and some extra tech features such as navigation, satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Bose stereo system. 

The Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine also comes under the hood of the CX-30 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus, which has front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, and a traffic jam assist feature that enhances the adaptive cruise control system and the lane-keeping assist system when traveling under 40 mph.
