Mazda has produced a variety of vehicles since its founding more than a century ago. Its automobile offerings range from opulent sedans to affordable sports cars. This Japanese automaker has a history of releasing a few high-performance vehicles that deliver extraordinary track times. However, this focus has changed in modern times as the brand shifts toward efficient but sporty vehicles.

Mazda RX-8 (Zero to 60 mph in 6.5 Seconds)
The RX-8, which replaced the RX-7, made its debut at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, and manufacturing continued until June 2012. The RX-8 had rear-hinged back doors and a 1.3-liter rotary engine that delivered 232 horsepower to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. This setup reached zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and attained a top speed of 146 mph. Praise for the RX-8 focuses on its superb handling and ideal front-to-rear weight balance, so give it a look if an older but fast Mazda sounds like the right fit for you.
Mazda MX-5 Miata (Zero to 60 mph in 5.7 Seconds)
The MX-5 Miata is the modern Mazda sports car, valued for its handling, driver-focused cabin, and rounded aerodynamic appearance. First designed in 1989 and sold the following year, current editions of this super-Mazda go from zero to 60 mph in as little as 5.7 seconds. The jump to the 2019 model year brought a significant horsepower increase, and further innovations will continue to shave those seconds down.
With the Miata RF, at zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, you will find it offers the same amazing features and specs in a convertible body style. Check out 2022 or earlier models for some of the fastest Mazda vehicles on the market, with a roomy trunk and a comfortable cabin on top of Mazda’s infotainment system.
2022 Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo All-Wheel Drive (Zero to 60 mph in 5.6 Seconds)
New compact sedans with opulent interiors and cutting-edge technology are common, but the latest versions of the Mazda 3 pack thrilling speed and handling into an affordable package. The Mazda 3’s fastest configuration benefits from the current 2.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine, and the manufacturer’s doubled traction all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The 2022 Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo AWD has a maximum output of 250 horsepower and can accelerate to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds.
One interesting note is that the 2022 Mazda 3’s standard engine and models also have the same top speed as the Turbo at 134 mph. A 2022 Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo AWD or a 2022 Mazda 3 with a standard engine is a fantastic choice for those seeking acceleration. A new Subaru from our dealership may also have what you need, particularly if you’re looking for power, comfort, and value.
Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 (Zero to 60 mph in 5.4 Seconds)
Next is the Mazdaspeed 3, a performance hatchback that debuted in 2007 and came in a variety of sub-models. Mazdaspeed is the manufacturer’s in-country performance vehicle division, releasing vehicles under that same name. The fastest generation started with the 2010 model, with its 2.3-liter turbocharged engine and 263 horsepower. This version of the Mazdaspeed 3 could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.
The Mazdaspeed 3 carried styling changes that gave it a sportier appearance than the higher trims of the Mazda 3. Part of the awesome look came from new headlights, a specialized grille, performance tires, and narrowed taillights.
Mazda RX-7 Type R (Zero to 60 mph in 5.1 Seconds)
The Mazda RX-7 is one of the fastest Mazda cars, achieving zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds in its early years, starting in 1991. The Mazda RX-7 Type R accelerates faster than the standard RX-7, reaching zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. The performance-based upgrades make the Type R an excellent all-around vehicle that is incredibly quick. You may be more likely to find an RX-8 of some kind than an RX-7, but if you do find an RX-7, definitely give it a test drive.
Mazda RX-7 Spirit R (Zero to 60 mph in 5.0 Seconds)
The RX-7 lineup’s final model, the RX-7 Spirit R, is currently the fastest vehicle produced by Mazda available to the public. The Spirit R has a reported top speed of 155 mph on rear-wheel drive coupe models. With a zero to 60 mph time of 5.0 seconds and up to 252 horsepower on a lightweight frame, the sports car was the fastest Mazda ever made, but future developments could create new records.
Mazda is generally known as a manufacturer of unique, luxurious, affordable vehicles, with some sportier models. While they aren’t one of the biggest brands in motorsports and track-performance automobile design, their experiments have led to some fantastic vehicles.
