The Original Pancake House

The Original Pancake House is your typical breakfast- and lunch-only restaurant, since it closes in the afternoon every day. They’re known for making awesome pancakes, since “pancake” is in the name, but they also serve up Southwestern staples like huevos rancheros and breakfast tacos, waffles, French toast, Benedicts, omelets, and, of course, crepes.
At OPH, you can get a few different kinds of crepes. Get the Classic Shells version for something simple or go full authentic with the French-style crepes served with fresh strawberries. You can also get the Coffee Maple Banana crepes, which feature fresh bananas, pecans, and a coffee-maple glaze. The Cherry Kijafa crepes are coated in a Danish wine sauce for a delicious twist. While this location doesn’t have its own savory crepes on the menu, you can always add savory sides, like bacon or sausage, to your crepe meal.
There are multiple locations around the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including one right here in our hometown. You can find the Fort Worth OPH location at 4646 S.W. Loop 820. This crepe-making destination is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ol’ South Pancake House
The Ol’ South Pancake House is another place that deserves the pancake house title because their “Famous Pancakes” are a must-try for all Fort Worth folks. In addition to pancakes, this restaurant serves waffles, biscuit-based skillets, breakfast burritos and platters, omelets, and, you guessed it, crepes.
Get the French-style crepes that are topped with strawberries and fluffy whipped cream. Or, grab the Swedish crepes topped with lingonberries and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Both options involve homemade crepe batter cooked to perfection for a sweet breakfast or brunch treat.
This restaurant has two locations. The Fort Worth location is at 1509 S. University, and it’s open 24/7. The Burleson location is at 225 E. Renfro St., and they’re open Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., Saturday all day, and Sunday from 12 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Savor Coffee Bar & Eatery
This restaurant serves both sweet and savory crepes. You have four savory options to choose from, and any of these combinations can be made into a crepe, croissant sandwich, or waffle sandwich. The Red-Eyed Texan is a unique combination that features chicken, bacon, red onions, cheese, and coffee-infused barbecue sauce. The Head To-Ma-Toes features tomatoes, mozzarella, turkey, and pesto. There’s also the Sunrise Breakfast, which has scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon, onions, tomatoes, and truffle mayo.
Those who love plant-based foods can order the Vegan Italian, which features plant-based Italian sausage, dairy-free cheese, tomatoes, spinach, and marinara sauce. However, it’s not fully vegan when ordered as a crepe, since those are made with eggs, milk, and butter.
There are also a few sweet crepes on the menu. The Nutella crepes come with fresh strawberries and bananas topped with rich, chocolaty Nutella, while the Bee’s Knees crepes are filled with homemade lemon cream cheese and topped with blueberry compote.
Savor Coffee Bar & Eatery is located at 1101 E. Bardin Road #101 in nearby Arlington. The kitchen is open every day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. What’s really great about this destination is that you can order your crepes at the drive-thru or have them at a table inside. Both the lobby and the drive-thru are open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Crepe and Cup
This place has crepe in the name, so you know they’ve got to be good. Crepe and Cup serves French-style crepes using the freshest local ingredients, and they also serve other internationally inspired breakfast sweets like Belgian waffles, Dutch poffertjes (which are fluffy, pancake-like pastries covered in powdered sugar), and Palestinian kunafa (fried cheese pastry).
You can get crepes, waffles, and poffertjes topped with any combination of this restaurant’s available toppings. Get fresh fruit like strawberries, bananas, mango, blueberries, raspberries, or kiwi. Try a crepe with cream cheese, Nutella, caramel sauce, maple syrup, or peanut butter. Make it extra sweet with crumbled Snickers, Twix, Almond Joy, or Butterfingers candy bars. Pair your sweet crepe with a fresh coffee, latte, or macchiato for the perfect breakfast treat.
You can find Crepe and Cup at 833 S. Denton Tap Road in nearby Coppell or at 3880 Irving Mall in nearby Irving. The Coppell location is open Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Irving Mall location is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Whisk Crêpes Café
Whisk’s founder was born and raised in Paris, so you know the crepes are as authentic as they get. This place serves up both sweet and savory crepes using ingredients and recipes inspired both by French cuisine and the Southern comfort cooking of Dallas.
When it comes to sweet crepes, you can order one of their nine recipes, like Notre Dame, which features Nutella, strawberries, bananas, and vanilla ice cream, or the Madame Du-Berry, which features a berry mixture and sweet custard. Or, you can build your own with fillings like butter and sugar, Nutella, peanut butter, or homemade dark chocolate syrup, and toppings like bananas, strawberries, coconut flakes, pecans, walnuts, and ice cream.
If you’re feeling savory crepes, you’ve got to try the La Compete, which is made with ham, Gruyère cheese, sunny side up egg, crème fraiche, chives, and greens. There’s also the Paris, TX crepe, which features smoked brisket, swiss cheese, onions, pickles, jalapenos, and barbecue cream.
You can find Whisk Crêpes Café at 1888 Sylvan Ave. in nearby Dallas. They’re open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
