As with most models, the Mazda CX-5 is offered in one of five trim levels:

The 2020 CX-5’s starting engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder SkyActive engine that produces 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard on the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.
For more power, choose the Grand Touring Reserve or Signature trim levels, which turbocharge the starting engine to increase its output to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.
Both of these engines are matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Increase your confidence as you drive through inclement weather by choosing a CX-5 equipped with the predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive system. This system reads multiple data points, including traction levels and changes in driving behavior, to send power to the wheels that need it the most. The Grand Touring and Signature trims add Off-Road Traction Assist to take your all-weather confidence even further.
When the weather is nice, engage Sport mode to increase your CX-5’s responsiveness and throttle. The Grand Touring is equipped with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel to give you greater control over your transmission. When you need a boost in stopping power, use the CX-5’s standard advanced smart city brake support system to stop moving sooner.
The new CX-5 was designed to deliver a more efficient, more cost-effective drive. With the standard front-wheel-drive system and entry-level engine, the CX-5 achieves up to 25 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway. Those numbers each go down by one with the all-wheel-drive option.
The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature each receive an EPA-estimated 22 mpg rating in the city and 27 on the highway.
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 does away with the hyper-aggressive posturing and sharp angles you see on many new SUVs. It instead opts for a more classically elegant shape, striking a good balance between sports car curves and SUV charm.
Subtle chrome accents can be found around the black mesh grille and side window frames. At the Grand Touring level, you’ll be able to take advantage of a rear power liftgate with programmable height adjustment that makes loading your SUV smoother. You have the choice between the usual metallic paint options and more fun colors such as Eternal Blue Mica and Soul Red Crystal Metallic. LED headlights come standard on the new CX-5, but they get an auto-leveling feature at the Touring level and signature lighting at the Grand Touring.
Every 2020 CX-5 seats five passengers in two rows. The rear seat is 40/20/40-split to let you load more and longer items in your rear cargo area. The rear cargo area offers 30.9 cubic feet of space with the seats up and 59.6 cubic feet when the seats are down. The Touring gives you upgraded simulated upholstery with heating for the front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. The Grand Touring adds heated rear seats and ventilated front seats to keep you comfortable throughout the year.
For the highest level of luxury in your crossover, choose the CX-5 Signature. Its seats are upholstered in brown Nappa leather, and the console features genuine wood trimming. Ambient cabin lighting sets the mood for your night drives. The CX-5 uses an intelligent amount of sound-proofing materials to keep out unwanted outside noise without removing your engagement with the road.
All models come equipped with a 7- or 8-inch touch screen that enhances your drives. At the Touring level, this screen is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. These programs allow you to create a fully hands-free phone experience in which you can access many of your favorite apps and features through voice commands. You can ask for directions, play your favorite albums, listen to your latest audiobooks, and much more without ever having to pick up your phone.
Opt for the Touring Preferred Package or choose the top three trims to get access to the 10-speaker Bose audio system to give your favorite songs new life. The Active Driving Display projects information — such as speed and route directions — directly onto the windshield, so you can stay updated while keeping your eyes on the road ahead.
Every 2020 CX-5 has access to Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE suite of driver-assist technologies that boost drivers’ abilities to react to would-be dangers on the road. This suite includes a blind-spot monitor that streamlines changing lanes on the highway, a rear cross-traffic alert system that makes backing out of parking spaces a breeze, and a lane-departure system that helps protect you against distractions on the road by keeping your CX-5 in its lane with gentle steering adjustments. These are just a few of the technologies that work with traditional safety features to keep you and your passengers out of harm’s way.
