If you’re looking for a new compact SUV, the 2022 CX-5 from Mazda and the 2022 CR-V from Honda may both be on your shortlist. Both of these vehicles offer excellent power, modern technology, and effective safety features. To help you determine which model might be the best fit for your needs, we here at Hiley Mazda of Fort Worth have compiled a comparison of key features and design elements for you to check out.

Exterior Design2022 Mazda CX-50

The CX-5 features an elegant design, which includes options like a glossy front grille, signature winged lower bumper, and black alloy wheels that will turn heads as you tear through the streets of Fort Worth. You can also opt for a trim with body-colored lower bumpers and choose from a wide range of exterior colors. These color options include soul red crystal metallic, snowflake white pearl, sonic silver metallic, external blue, deep crystal blue, jet black, and machine gray.

The CR-V includes a front-end grille, sculpted wheel arches, and chrome accents that create a sleek yet sporty style. Dual chrome exhaust finishers add to the powerful style, and the hands-free access power tailgate allows you to open the trunk easily with a motion-activated foot sensor, even when your hands are full. You can also customize your Honda exterior with accessories like a roof basket, roof rails, running boards, a gloss-black grille, side lower trim, or a tailgate spoiler.

Interior Design

Inside, the signature CX-5 trim offers sophisticated genuine layered wood trim and brown leather-trimmed seats. Other CX-5 trim interior options include seats of Caturra brown Nappa leather or parchment leather. You can also opt for a trim with a sleek black leather interior design with red stitching. This vehicle includes plenty of storage space for belongings in door pockets, a central console, and a roomy trunk. Easy fold seats make packing for family road trips a breeze.

The CR-V features cloth or leather-trimmed seating, depending on the trim level you select. You can also enjoy a leather-trimmed steering wheel and adjustable 12-way power driver seating for optimal comfort and style while driving. Speaking of comfort, heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats will ensure that everyone in the car is the perfect temperature for long drives. Like the CX-5, the CR-V offers easy fold down the back seats. Available interior accessories include all-season floor mats, illuminated door sill trim, and rear seat covers.

Trim Levels

The Mazda CX-5 comes in eight distinct trim levels, the 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo, and 2.5 Turbo Signature. Most of the trims offer features like the Mazda i-Activ all-wheel drive, advanced smart city break, and Apple CarPlay. If you’re looking for comfort, consider the 2.5 S Select or other trims that offer heated front seats and a 6-way power-adjusted driver’s seat. Some trims also offer perks like leather-trimmed seats, power sliding-glass moonroof, and leather-wrapped steering wheel with stylish stitching.

The CR-V comes in five trim levels, including the LX, the Special Edition, the EX, the EX-L, and the Touring. Of these trims, the EX, EX-L, and Touring are available as a hybrid. The LX and Special Edition trims feature 17-inch alloy wheels, the EX and EX-L offer 18-inch alloy wheels, and the Touring comes with 19-inch alloy wheels. The LX, Special Edition, and EX all come with cloth seats, while the EX-L and Touring feature leather-trimmed seats. If you’re interested in power driver’s seats or a one-touch power moonroof, the EX, EX-L, and Touring trims might be for you.

Power and Performance

The Mazda CX-5 includes i-Active all-wheel drive and Intelligent Drive Select technology which allows you to choose either Normal, Sport, or Off-Road modes to match your driving conditions. With the SKYACTIV-G 2.4, 186 lb-ft torque at 4,000 rpm engine, you’ll have plenty of power.

The Honda CR-V features a 4-cylinder, 1.5L turbocharged engine with 190 horsepower. You can also opt into the available all-wheel drive, which automatically diverts precise amounts of torque to the rear wheels, allowing for plenty of power to navigate a wide range of terrains and weather. The electric parking brake allows drivers to prepare to return to the road with the push of a button.

Technology

The Mazda CX-5 includes remote technology that you can access from your smartphone. This includes a remote engine start that allows drivers to warm up the car at the push of a button and the MyMazda App which allows you to find where you parked your car, activate the hazard lights remotely, and receive mobile notifications about maintenance issues or service recommendations.

The Honda CR-V offers a similar technological option with its Walk Away Auto Lock option. Both cars feature mobile connection options and display touchscreens, allowing drivers to connect a mobile device for directions, messages, and music access. The CR-V also includes a USB audio interface and a premium 330-watt, 9 speaker audio system, with a subwoofer for an optimal listening experience.

Safety

The safety features in the CX-5 include Mazda’s i-Activsense safety technology, which can alter drivers to pedestrians at night and includes a smart brake for safer city driving. Other CX-5 safety features include a blind spot monitoring system, a rear cross-traffic alter system, radar cruise control, adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warnings, lane-keep assist monitoring, and driver attention alert systems that activate a warning sound when it detects driver fatigue.

The Honda CR-V, too, comes with a blind spot information system, a cross-traffic monitor, and LED headlights with automatic on-off controls. Other safety features include a multi-angle rearview camera for complex maneuvers and rain-sensing windshield wipers to help drivers maintain clear vision even in heavy rain.
