M.L. Leddy’s

Stock up on your Western boots and cowboy hats at M.L. Leddy’s, located in the Fort Worth Stockyards. While many other proprietors made saddles and boots in 1922 when the first store opened, M.L. Leddy and his brothers distinguished themselves from the competition by offering the highest quality products with exceptional customer service. Today, that reputation continues as the family-run business celebrates four generations of boot-making.

Since 1941, M.L. Leddy’s store in the historic Stockyards district has sold authentic Western wear. Over time, the store has added many products to its line, including custom hats, belts, buckles, and accessories. M.L. Leddy’s also sells a full line of clothing items from some of the top Western brands in the market. The store remains best known, however, for its custom-made boots. Over 250,000 customers have recorded their boot measurements in the store’s legendary bank ledgers—from presidents to rock stars.

Black Coffee

When you need a jolt of caffeine, head to Black Coffee, located across the street from the Texas Wesleyan University campus. The shop’s owner, Mia Moss, became passionate about coffee while working at Seattle’s Best Coffee after graduating high school. She recognized the need for a coffee shop in East Fort Worth, and in 2019, she opened Black Coffee, which became the first coffee shop in the Polytechnic Heights neighborhood, according to Visit Fort Worth. Moss says she plans to remain a part of the community for many years to come.

Black Coffee offers an expansive menu of espresso, coffee, teas, and non-coffee drinks, featuring a variety of global flavors. All espresso drinks are served with two shots and come hot or over ice. Make sure to try one of the shop’s signature drinks, such as the Butter Cup Latte, a hazelnut latte made with peanut butter and drizzled with mocha. Black Coffee also sells locally crafted goods and a variety of pastries and breakfast items.

Winton and Waits

Visit Winton and Waits to find handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces and all for a good cause. This female-owned and female-run business partners with other artisans around the globe to curate a collection that celebrates the unique journeys of people from all walks of life. The company sells luxury bath goods, personal care, home care fragrances, and a full line of jewelry and accessories. Winton and Waits also prioritizes giving back to the community by partnering with organizations working to help people in need in the Fort Worth area.

Inside the restored 1920s warehouse on South Main Street, you’ll find various handcrafted items and gifts, including candles, bubble baths, handmade jewelry, and bundled gift sets. Winton and Waits even offers monthly “make and take” classes, where you and your friends can use your creativity to make personalized products, such as necklaces or cocktails. Every class comes with beverages and small snacks.

Leaves Book and Tea Shop

Relax with a good book and a cup of tea at Leaves Book and Tea Shop, an independent bookstore in Fort Worth. The shop aims to provide a place to gather for the community, offering a respite from the busy pace of everyday life. It sells new books in various genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and young adult. It also partners with local authors to highlight their work inside the store. When you’re finished with the book you’ve purchased, you can donate it to the store’s Little Free Library so that others can read it at no cost.

Leaves Book and Tea Shop offers over 50 tea varieties, which can be served hot or iced. You can sip your tea while you read your book inside the store or take it to go. The store also sells tea in 2-ounce increments to enjoy at home. Twice a month, in partnership with other food businesses, the shop hosts an after-hours event, serves specialty tea drinks, and provides entertainment, such as live music or trivia. Other store events have included story times, used book swaps, and author panels.

The Market at Ridglea

Support a variety of small businesses when you visit The Market at Ridglea, a collection of shops located in West Fort Worth. The Market provides affordable retail space for small local retailers and makers. By providing these cooperative retail spaces, small businesses are afforded a brick-and-mortar location without facing high costs from lease agreements and overheads.

The Market hosts dozens of vendors offering high-quality items. Many vendors sell clothing, accessories, home decor, gifts, children’s attire, or food items.
