Blue Bonnet Bakery is a generational doughnut shop that was founded in 1934 and has been serving up an incredible selection of sweet carbohydrates for almost 90 years. Originally located at 3900 Camp Bowie Blvd., the bakery moved down the street to 4705 Camp Bowie to take up residence in a 1920s-era church for more space, increased parking capacity, and a unique location from which to serve its customers.

The doughnut menu sticks with classic flavors that include glazed, chocolate glazed, glazed or sugared twist cake doughnuts, filled doughnuts, and doughnut holes. Blue Bonnet Bakery’s doughnuts may not be the flavor of the moment, but their bakery products are made fresh daily and produced by bakers who are invested in making their doughnuts the very best they can be.

Detour Doughnuts and Coffee

Detour Doughnuts and Coffee is a gourmet doughnut shop with a menu that changes monthly. There’s no stated reason why the shop rotates its menu, but you can be sure that you’ll find a unique and delectable delight that sticks around for a month. Some flavors are seasonal, such as an apple cider doughnut, s’mores, and pumpkin mascarpone for fall, while others are made all the time. Regularly produced doughnuts include creme brulee, glazed, blueberry glazed, red velvet, and chocolate sprinkles.

Operating days and hours are limited to 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, so be sure to get there early enough to pick up a dozen of your new favorite doughnut flavors.

Hypnotic Donuts & Chicken Biscuits

You’ll have to detour to Dallas for this gourmet doughnut shop with a wacky take on its bakery offerings. Founded in 2010, Hypnotic Donuts & Chicken Biscuits began with a mission to use locally sourced ingredients, invent strange recipes that somehow work, make the doughnuts by hand throughout the day, and make all glazes, icings and fillings in-house. The doughnut menu starts out with traditional flavors that include blueberry cake, chocolate or vanilla cake, and a glazed yeast doughnut.

Things quickly devolve from there with the Sin ‘Namon roll, Bavarian the Barbarian that is a long john filled with Bavarian cream, Canadian Healthcare that consists of a long john with maple frosting and a slice of bacon, Ski Accident that’s a long john with raspberry filling and coated in powdered sugar, and Espresso Yo’self, a chocolate cake doughnut with coffee icing, caramel drizzle, and sprinkled with coffee grounds.

FunkyTown Donuts

FunkyTown Donuts is a family affair that is run by people who have a passion for making, well, funky doughnuts. Doughnuts are made from fresh ingredients using seasonal flavors when available. Everything’s made from scratch, which means the traditional and seasonal flavors are going to taste scrumptious.

The menu for monthly doughnuts is always changing, and some are available at certain times of the year only. You’ll have to check the website or call ahead to find out what’s available. The regular doughnut menu includes vanilla and chocolate glazed, classic sprinkle, mini apple fritter, donut holes, and a delight called the Double Stuff, which features vanilla glaze, crushed Oreo cookies, buttercream, and a mini Oreo cookie.

Dough Boy Donuts

Dough Boy Donuts is a gourmet doughnut shop that makes its dough from scratch and produces doughnuts throughout the day. You can get a warm, sweet treat of a doughnut that’s fresh out of the fryer anytime between 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The shop features specialty doughnuts for each month and has a regular roster of funky flavors that don’t go out of style, nor off the menu. The monthly doughnuts aren’t always seasonally flavored, as evidenced by the Hot Cheeto doughnut that’s glazed with cream cheese and dusted with Hot Cheeto crumbles for October.

Some of the regular flavors include the Bam Bam that is a cream cheese glaze doughnut topped with Fruity Pebbles cereal, a maple glazed doughnut with a strip of sriracha candied bacon on top, and a vanilla butter glaze on top of a yeast-raised doughnut. Dough Boy Donuts also offers a doughnut breakfast sandwich made with a doughnut and a combination of egg, sausage, bacon, and cheese.

A & H Donuts

A & H Donuts is an abbreviation for authentic and homemade doughnuts, and their doughnut lineup reflects their dedication to using fresh ingredients and seasonal flavors. The bakery is also famous for their custom doughnut orders made to customer specifications. The seasonal doughnuts are always changing, so be sure to get your fill of your favorite flavor before the ingredients go out of season.

The standard doughnuts include raised glazed, chocolate, and sprinkles, and cake doughnuts come in plain or with a seasonal topping. Other flavors include blueberry, buttermilk, long john, unicorn, mermaid, and coconut. Doughnut holes are also available and come in glazed, chocolate, and sprinkles. There are also breakfast items on the menu, including a milk sausage roll, a croissant roll, and a sausage and cheese croissant roll.
