Animal Shelters & Foundations in Dallas Fort Worth

Here at Hiley Mazda of Fort Worth we love animals of all shapes, sizes, and origins. Many amazing local charities and international organizations with local chapters support our shared love of animals. Whether domesticated pets in our homes or wildlife we would only want to see from afar, these creatures need and deserve our attention. Many local programs need your help, whether for spreading the word about conservation efforts, participating in local events, volunteering your time, or donating items and money. Check out some of our favorite local animal charities below.

American Paint Horse Foundation

The American Paint Horse Foundation, or APHF, is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate youth and identify heritage. Preservation of the historical events and artifacts that have influenced the breed throughout history is as important to the APHF as educating people in the ways these horses have influenced society and culture. One of its many programs is an educational exhibit with various works of art and artifacts, shown on a permanent and rotating display, that depict the history, breeding, and training of the paint horse. Other programs include youth scholarships, a world show, and the APHF’s lasting legacy capital campaign.

Bunny Burrow Rabbit Rescue

The Bunny Burrow Rabbit Rescue is a nonprofit organization that was inspired by a love for rabbits and began with just $500 and one cute little lop bunny. It has since grown into an all-volunteer organization that cares for sick and injured rabbits, providing them with spaying, neutering, and other veterinary care, as well as restoring their spirits and finding them forever homes through sponsoring and adoption. Relying on the generosity of donations to run the program, the Bunny Burrow Rabbit Rescue takes in an average of over 150 bunnies per year. Quail Coalition

The Quail Coalition is a nonprofit organization that works to restore and sustain the wild bobwhite quail population, celebrate quail hunting heritage, conduct quail research, and educate landowners and youth about conservation. With a humble beginning in Dallas, this organization has grown to 12 local chapters with over 3,000 active members and is completely volunteer-based, including the board of directors. The Quail Coalition’s mission is to solve the puzzling decline of the bobwhite quail by considering regional issues and interests and collaborating with local agencies and organizations. International Rhino Foundation

The International Rhino Foundation, or IRF, is a nonprofit organization that works to save the world’s rhinoceros population through research and conservation. While based in the United States, the IRF operates programs on the ground where rhinos live, supporting the five remaining rhino species in Asia and Africa. Focused on anti-poaching, captive breeding, habitat conservation, scientific research, and environmental education, the IRF has funded rhino efforts in 10 countries. It collaborates through a network of hundreds of organizations and local grassroots support to achieve the common goal of eliminating threats and stabilizing the population of rhinos around the world.

Turtle Survival Alliance

The Turtle Survival Alliance, or TSA, is a worldwide nonprofit organization with one goal: zero turtle extinctions in the 21st century. Its mission is to turn people’s passion for turtles into real action for effective conservation while offering exciting jobs and full-time internships. The base of operations at the Turtle Survival Center is recognized as a world-class turtle conservation center, featuring a vet clinic, quarantine facility, greenhouse, and many indoor and outdoor enclosures. International Iguana Foundation

The International Iguana Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to save the lesser Antillean iguana on the island of Dominica. A critically endangered species, the lesser Antillean iguana used to inhabit over 14 islands but is now down to just five, mainly the island of Dominica. The lesser Antillean iguana is under severe threat from the native and invasive green iguanas. Without conservation efforts, the lesser Antillean iguana could become extinct and be lost forever. The International Iguana Foundation supports many projects, including habitat restoration, scientific research, population supplementation, and capacity building and outreach. Adopt an iguana today!

The mission of the International Iguana Foundation (IIF) is to support conservation, awareness, and scientific programs that enhance the survival of wild iguanas and their habitat. Based at the Fort Worth Zoo, the IIF works in partnership with a wide variety of organizations to generate public awareness of the threats facing iguanas today and the important role that iguanas play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. We focus primarily on species that are critically endangered and since organizing in 2001, have helped to recover several species in the Caribbean that were at high risk of extinction. We work to restore flagship species and their habitats and provide critical support to iguana recovery programs. As a non-profit organization, we provide grants to support the conservation of endangered iguanas worldwide, through the promotion of a broad conservation agenda involving species and habitat protection, education and outreach, scientific research, and captive management. The IIF supports programs throughout the Caribbean, most notably Jamaica, Central America, Fiji, and the Galapagos.

Trinity River Bees

Trinity River Bees is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about the importance of bees, creating bee-friendly environments, raising awareness about how bees are part of the food chain, and trying to increase the number of honey bees in Texas. This organization is working on conserving and rejuvenating the bee population in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by installing over 24 beehives that each house up to 200,000 bees. Trinity River Bees removes, relocates, and monitors hives that would otherwise be exterminated and offers bee education programs. Donations are greatly appreciated.

International Bongo Foundation

The International Bongo Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and facilitate bongo antelope conservation in Kenya. Focused on reintroducing, managing, and protecting the mountain bongo, this foundation also provides educational programs and does scientific research. Forty-seven zoological institutions work together to manage and house bongo antelope, both in captivity and in the wild, in order to repopulate the forests of Mount Kenya. A bongo repatriation program has been initiated to bring locally bred bongo antelopes back to Kenya to grow their native population.
