Red 2021 Mazda CX-3

Looking for a subcompact SUV that’s great fun to drive and near the top of the class when it comes to fuel economy? The Mazda CX-3 may be just the car you’re looking for. Beyond its sporty look, stand-out external design, and 2-liter V-4 engine, the CX-3 has a number of features to offer internally that you’ll find appealing. Let’s take a look.

Interior Design

Mazda’s smallest SUV offers you an upscale cabin for the reasonable price of just over $20,000. The cloth finishing on the seats gives the cabin a nice look, and there’s also soft-touch materials around the controls to provide a touch of comfort.

The cloth finishings for the interior are black and of good quality. This durable finish makes the CX-3 a good candidate for daily commuting or family vehicle. Compared to other vehicles in the same price category, the cloth finish in the CX-3 is impressive.

The front of the cabin provides ample head space and legroom to ensure a comfortable ride. The compact rear of the vehicle offers ideal accommodation for children or small adults. Behind the second row of seats, you have storage space to cope with the majority of daily needs.

Seating Space

The Mazda CX-3 can seat five, which is standard for this class of crossover. Up front, the driver’s seat is six-way manually adjustable and gives you a commanding view of the road ahead. You’ll also have plenty of room in the passenger seat to get comfortable.

The second row of seating is more compact. On long drives, these seats will be best suited for children or smaller adults. If you’re sitting in the second row, you’ll have 35 inches of legroom paired with 37 inches of headroom. Up front, these dimensions increase to 38.4 inches of headroom and 41.7 inches of legroom.

All three of the rear seats can be fitted with child safety seats. Both outside seats have two complete sets of latch connectors. For the middle seat, there is a tether anchor to hold a seat in place.

If you require more rear seating space, you may want to consider the Mazda CX-30. This vehicle is the next step up in Mazda’s crossover range. It allows you to have a little more space without having to spend too much more to get it.

Cargo Space

You can stow up to 17.8 cubic feet of cargo in the trunk of your CX-3. This is sufficient space to carry your grocery shopping or transport your kids to school with their bags. Packed suitcases for a weekend away or a short business trip will also fit comfortably behind the second row of seats.

To create more cargo space, you can fold down the second row of seating. By doing so, you’ll open up over 42 cubic feet of storage room. That’s ideal for transporting larger items, such as mountain bikes, or moving household furniture.

Storing Small Items

You’ll also find small storage spaces within the CX-3’s cabin. For tablets or other similarly-sized items, you can use the glove compartment or the cubby under the central arm rest. Front seat passengers can also take advantage of cup holders alongside their seats. In the rear, door pockets on either side are good for small items.

Entertainment and Comfort

Once you’re seated and on the move, you’ll notice that the CX-3 has an easy-to-use infotainment system to help your passengers enjoy the ride. They can operate the infotainment system using the 7-inch touch screen, which is also equipped with a rotating dial for passengers who prefer that option.

The Infotainment system comes with an AM/FM radio and is compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. You can listen to music through the six-speaker sound system, which comes as standard with the CX-3.

If your passengers want to keep their electronic devices charged, they can choose from a 12-volt power socket or a USB connection in the infotainment system. The infotainment system is also fitted with an audio jack as an alternative input.

Other Cabin Features

The CX-3’s automatic climate control will ensure that you and your passengers remain at just the right temperature throughout the drive. You’ll also find driving easier with the tilt and telescoping steering column, which will help you find the perfect position once you’ve settled into the driver’s seat.

Underlining Mazda’s reliability and strong safety record, you also have access to a wide range of safety and driver assistance features. In the i-Activesense safety suite, you can take advantage of a rearview camera, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. In addition, you’ll benefit from forward-collision warning, which also includes night-time pedestrian detection.

If you use your vehicle a lot in the city, you may want to pay the additional $500 to include the rear parking sensor upgrade. The features make it a lot easier when you’re trying to maneuver your CX-3 into a tight parking spot.

Trims and Upgrades

The Mazda CX-3 is available in one single trim only, the Sport. This means that you can’t change the internal finishings or upgrade many of the interior’s features. In the past, a higher trim allowed buyers to upgrade to leather seats and panels, but this was removed for the 2020 model.

Some small upgrades to the interior are still possible. For example, you can add all-weather mats to the floor or door sill trim plates.
